To help protect our community and our patients from the spread of COVID-19, Newport Doctor has moved to Telehealth consultations with appointments now being over the phone or video calls.
Telehealth bookings for existing patients can be made online. New patients can arrange a booking through reception on 9997 4441.
Please note that same patients may qualify for the temporary Medicare funded Telehealth consultation. Those who do not qualify will be charged a reduced private fee.
If you have flu-like symptoms, cough, runny nose or breathlessness it is important to notify us by telephone. Please do not visit the clinic.
If a face to face consultation is needed you will need to call reception and your selected GP will arrange a suitable time. We ask that you do not enter the waiting room as it is now closed. Please call and notify reception on your arrival and wait outside or in your car. Your GP will call you when they are ready to see you.
We endeavour to provide the best care possible and aim to ensure that our patients are our top priority. With the ever-changing situation we ask that you visit our Facebook page or Instagram account for updates.
At Newport Doctor we are very well prepared to face the challenges presented by the COVID-19 global pandemic. We have been monitoring the situation since it began and have implemented greatly enhanced triaging and infection control measures.
Newport Doctor are still seeing patients face-to-face however we ask patients call reception for an appointment on 9997 4441 so we can discuss the best way to help you. Please be honest, patient and understanding when our reception team ask screening questions as we are all doing our very best to look after our valued patients.
If you are presenting for an appointment:
We have closed our waiting room and ask that patients call the practice when they are at the surgery, wait in their car or knock on the door so reception can check you in. Your doctor will phone you (from a private or unknown mobile) so please answer the call.
With telehealth consultations we offer audio and video calls for existing patients who have seen their GP in the past 12 months. We will email you a form explaining the process. Please let us know your communication preference.
We appreciate payment over the phone via credit card only. Unfortunately, Medicare rebates are unavailable for phone consults as despite the headlines, the item numbers are heavily restricted and most cannot be applied in our practice setting.
Whilst these measures may seem extreme we are doing all we can to look after our amazing team so they can be there for you.
